The Musée Granet in Aix-en-Provence, in collaboration with the Fondation Jean et Suzanne Planque, is presenting "Kosta Alex, Coup de chapeau," an exhibition dedicated to the American artist of Greek origin, Kosta Alexopoulos (1925-2005).

This retrospective features approximately sixty works, spanning fifty years of his creative output from his arrival in Paris until his death. The exhibition showcases his diverse artistic practice through sculptures, assemblages, relief boards, collages, drawings, films, and archival materials.

Kosta Alex was known for his singular, whimsical, and ingenious creations made from humble, found materials. A prolific and independent sculptor, he remained outside of any artistic movements, drawing inspiration from everyday life and poetry. He was a discreet artist, often overshadowed by his contemporaries, a characteristic he shared with collector Jean Planque. His close friendship with Planque led him to donate about ten works to the collector. Following his death, his family gifted a significant collection of sculptures, drawings, and relief boards to the Fondation Jean et Suzanne Planque.

Kosta Alex - Coup de chapeau
Le Musée Granet d'Aix-en-Provence, en collaboration avec la Fondation Jean et Suzanne Planque, présente « Kosta Alex, Coup de chapeau », une exposition dédiée à l'artiste américain d'origine grecque, Kosta Alexopoulos (1925-2005).

Cette rétrospective présente une soixantaine d'œuvres, couvrant cinquante ans de sa production créative, de son arrivée à Paris jusqu'à sa mort. L'exposition met en avant sa pratique artistique diversifiée à travers des sculptures, assemblages, planches en relief, collages, dessins, films et documents d'archives.

Kosta Alex était connu pour ses créations singulières, fantaisistes et ingénieuses, réalisées à partir de matériaux humbles et de récupération. Sculpteur prolifique et indépendant, il resta en dehors de tout mouvement artistique, s'inspirant de la vie quotidienne et de la poésie. C'était un artiste discret, souvent éclipsé par ses contemporains, une caractéristique qu'il partageait avec le collectionneur Jean Planque. Sa grande amitié avec Planque le conduisit à faire don d'environ dix œuvres au collectionneur. Après sa mort, sa famille fit don d'une importante collection de sculptures, dessins et panneaux en relief à la Fondation Jean et Suzanne Planque.
