Incas, the sacred heritage of the Andes
This exhibition delves into 3,000 years of Andean pre-Columbian history, spanning from the Chavín culture to the Incas. It highlights the rich cultural diversity and the profound significance of sacrality within their societies. The exhibition meticulously explores the contributions of pre-Inca cultures, including the Moche, Nazca, Chimú, Tiahuanaco, and Wari, to the Inca Empire, with a particular focus on their advancements in architecture, engineering, and goldsmithing. Approximately 250 ritual and artistic objects, sourced from Peruvian museums like the Larco Museum and MALI, as well as European institutions such as the British Museum, Musée du Quai Branly, and the Museums of the Americas in Auch and Madrid, will be showcased.

The exhibition is thoughtfully organized into thematic and chronological sections. These sections cover crucial aspects of Andean life and belief systems, such as the sacred environment, Andean cosmovision, ritual practices (including the Moche sacrifice), the importance of precious metals, and the enduring legacy of the Inca Empire. The overarching aim is to provide visitors with an immersive visual and sensory experience, fostering an appreciation for the preservation and discovery of Andean cultural heritage. The exhibition is curated by Carole Fraresso, a recognized specialist in Andean goldsmithing and pre-Hispanic Peruvian cultures. Her extensive experience includes a fellowship at the French Institute of Andean Studies in Lima, Peru, from 2004 to 2006, and her ongoing role as an associated scientific curator at the Larco Museum in Lima since 2009.

Cette exposition explore 3 000 ans d'histoire précolombienne andine, allant de la culture chavín aux incas. Elle met en lumière la riche diversité culturelle ainsi que l'importance de la sacralité au sein de ces sociétés. L'exposition explore méticuleusement les contributions des cultures pré-incas, notamment Moches, Nazca, Chimú, Tiahuanaco et Wari, à l'Empire inca, en mettant particulièrement l'accent sur leurs avancées en architecture, ingénierie et orfèvrerie. Environ 250 objets rituels et artistiques, provenant de musées péruviens comme le Larco Museum et le MALI, ainsi que d'institutions européennes telles que le British Museum, le Musée du Quai Branly et les Musées des Amériques d'Auch et de Madrid, viennent illustrer ce savoir-faire.

L'exposition est organisée par thématique et de manière chronologique. L'exposition est organisée par Carole Fraresso, spécialiste reconnue de l'orfèvrerie andine et des cultures péruviennes préhispaniques. Boursière de l'Institut français d'études andines à Lima, au Pérou, de 2004 à 2006, C. Fraresso est conservatrice scientifique associée au musée Larco de Lima depuis 2009.
